AcheiveDC launches DC Triathlon Summer Camp!
AchieveDC along with its partner the District of Columbia Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announce the DC Triathlon Summer Camp, the new specialty summer camp in Ward 5 beginning June 25th, 2007. The DC Triathlon Summer Camp was designed by RaceTrain Fitness®, The USAT, and The DC Triathlon Club to be a fun exciting way for kids to learn the sport and spirit of triathlon. Held at the Turkey Thicket Recreation Center in Washington, DC this 6-week summertime program is the real thing, sanctioned and certified by the USAT as an official training program!
Specially trained counselors and coaches will teach kids the swimming, biking and running skills required by the sport of triathlon. They’ll learn about transitions, proper nutrition, safe hydration, triathlon specific exercises, stretches, tactics and techniques as well as how to work with others in a team oriented environment. Guest lecturers will teach kids from their experiences on how triathlon, and leading a healthy fitness oriented lifestyle helped them succeed in life. It’s a program designed to be fun and enjoyable but also technical enough to receive USAT sanctioning and certification.
T
he DC Triathlon Summer Camp will supply all of the equipment kids need for training during the program. We will provide bikes, helmets, swim fins, pull buoys, stretch cords, training journals, kickboards, swim goggles and more. We’ll even give them a cool DC Triathlon Summer Camp bike jersey! All parents need to do is make sure their kids have shorts, a swimsuit, sneakers, towel and a t-shirt each day for camp. We even feed them breakfast and lunch every day!
At the end of camp kids will compete in the 1st Annual DC Kids Triathlon. This race will be sanctioned by the USAT and produced by The Nation’s Triathlon®. This kid-sized triathlon features a 200m swim,
5k bike and a 3k run. There will be professional timing, a finish line banner, finishers medal, finishers t-shirt, a finish line photo and more. It will be an outstanding positive experience for both kids and parents. As USAT members racing in a USAT sanctioned triathlon they will officially record their first sanctioned triathlon finish time!
