Brand Ambassadors - Overview

Brand Ambassadors

What are The Nation's Triathlon Brand Ambassadors?

The Nation’s Triathlon’s Brand Ambassadors are experienced elite marathoners, swimmers and triathletes who will be attending various expos, Team In Training meetings, workouts, ACHIEVE camp sessions and participating in races throughout the country to promote The Nation’s Triathlon and its sponsors. These athletes can answer your questions about the race, help you get ready for it, and often bring free stuff with them. Check out when they’ll be near you and stop by to say hi.

Who are The Nation’s Triathlon Brand Ambassadors?

Michelle Harburg
Michelle Harburg

Michelle completed her first Ironman on August 30, 2009 in Louisville, KY where she came in 2nd in her age group and qualified for Kona‘s World Champion Ironman Race. Last fall she signed up for Ironman St. George, Utah in order to motivate herself to train through the winter. At the time she did not realize that DC was about to be hit with one of the hardest winters ever! Her 2010 race schedule includes: Miami Triathlon, National Half-Marathon, Cherry Blossom 10 Mile, Ironman St. George, Eagleman Half Ironman, The Washington DC Triathlon and The Nation‘s Triathlon.

Jeff Horowitz
Jeff Horowitz

Jeff is a certified running and tri coach, personal trainer, writer and magazine editor. Formerly a practicing attorney, he quit law in 2008 to pursue his passion for endurance sport. He has run 151 marathons (and counting), including at least one in every state, and across the world from Antarctica to Africa and China. Lately he‘s taken up ultramarathons, favoring the 50-Miler, and also has run the Himalayan 100-Mile Stage Race. Jeff is especially proud to be working with the DC Tri, The Nation‘s Triathlon, and ACHIEVE Kids Tri, and helping to get DC recognized as Tri Town USA.

Lloyd Henry
Lloyd Henry

Lloyd had 40 athletes compete in the Nation’s Triathlon as part of his OnPoint Fitness training program and finished Ironman Couer d’Alene and Ironman Louisville. Lloyd also spent the summer hosting triathlon clinics at CitySports and other locations throughout DC.

Sara Strope
Maya Brown

Maya Some of Maya‘s earliest memories were of her father running in the misty dawn with the neighborhood dogs trotting at his side--these childhood moments and memories inspired a lifetime of running. Maya grew up in Seattle and moved to the Marshall Islands in Micronesia (the South Pacific) when she was 10. She started seriously running when she moved there as the island was 3 miles long and a 1/2 mile wide--there wasn't much else to do! Maya ran and won (for kids) many of the races on island including completing a half-marathon and a sprint triathlon at the age of 13. Moving to Vermont for high school she ran cross country, swam and played tennis competitively. Maya has run all over the world in the many places she‘s lived: from the dirty heat of India to the desolate steppe of Mongolia to the crowded city streets of Osaka, Japan. She‘s run and placed in dozens of races including the Boston Marathon and 7 other marathons. Running continues to motivate and inspire Maya as she hopes it will others.

Travis Siehndel
Travis Siehndel

In 2003, Travis departed his beloved couch and a bag of Doritos in search of a more active lifestyle. After completing his first 10-miler in 2003, first marathon in 2005 and first triathlon in 2006, Travis became fully addicted to the multisport lifestyle. Since then, he‘s been participating in road and trail races, marathons, an ultramarathon and countless triathlons including the inaugural 2009 Ironman Cozumel. This year‘s race season includes a race to the alter where Travis is marrying his lovely fiancé Katie in July. A member and former President of the DC Triathlon Club, he has also been deeply involved with DC Tri‘s New Triathlete Program. Travis is the volunteer coordinator for The Nation‘s Tri and DC Tri and also volunteers with ACHIEVE. When not pursuing the multisport lifestyle, Travis trades his carbon-fiber bike for a silver plated tuba where he performs full-time with the US Naval Academy Band in Annapolis, MD.
